A bathroom remodel is one of the most valuable improvements you can make to your home. If you do not want to look at your home as an investment in your future, then know that you deserve the luxury of a new bathroom. There are some things you should know before you begin. First and foremost, know your budget. A budget is always an estimate as things can come up. Include plumbing in the estimate and allow for a margin of problem. Only a licensed plumber can make that call. If you have an older home, you have to financially prepare for the thread on the sweater getting pulled. Once the stuff starts to come up and come out, you may be in for a few shocks.
When making your design plan, be sure your toilet goes in a discrete location. You do not want it to be the first thing you see when the door swings open. If it is being used, well….ya, pick as hidden a spot as possible. If you are the proud owner of an older home, try to include your vintage finishes. Even if you are on a quest for modern touches, a good designer can work around your request. Lighting is key to this space.
You need task, ambient, and accent lighting. Another element to thoughtful design is keeping in
mind the dimensions of your space. If you are not taking down walls, you can only use the space available. Choosing a sink is a huge part of the plan. By picking size and depth and height, you will be deciding how everything else fits the room.
The vanity is the biggest element in the room. If this goes wrong, and often does, you will have to wait for the re-order. If you have to ask three or four or five times, make sure your contractor has taken the proper measurements. Take your time in picking your vanity. It will be the stand out piece and you will have to look at it every day for a long time. If can afford a big splurge, do so. A person who likes to take a bath may want to spend money on a claw-foot tub. A lover of showers may want a spa shower. The cold weather resident may want heated floors and heated towel racks. After you have quadruple checked your vanity size, you can quadruple check the tile size. An imported European tile has different measurements and this has to be taken into account when the plans are being drawn. When it is all done, we are certain you will stand in the doorway and stare. Stare guilt-free, it is your paradise!
